- 1 | lb | ground beef |
- 2 | cups | shredded mozzarella cheese |
- 1 | medium | onion | diced
- 3 | cloves | garlic | minced
- 1 | tsp | ground cumin |
- 1 | tsp | salt |
- 0.5 | tsp | black pepper |
- 3 | tbsp | olive oil |
- 0.5 | cup | tomato sauce |
Peel and slice plantains lengthwise into ½-inch thick strips.
Heat olive oil in a skillet and fry plantain slices until golden on both sides; drain on paper towels.
In the same skillet, sauté diced onion and minced garlic until soft.
Add ground beef and cook until browned; stir in cumin, salt, pepper, and tomato sauce; simmer 5 minutes.
Arrange a layer of plantain slices in a greased baking dish.
Spread half the beef mixture over the plantains and sprinkle with cheese.
Repeat layers with remaining plantains, beef, and a final layer of cheese.
Bake at 375°F for 25–30 minutes until cheese is melted and golden.
Rest 5 minutes before serving.
Store leftovers covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
Reheat individual portions in a 350°F oven until warmed through.
Ground turkey can replace beef for a lighter option.
Fully ripe plantains give the best sweet-savory balance.
