Homemade Caramel Sauce

Ingredients
  

  • 1 | cup | granulated sugar |
  • 0.25 | cup | water |
  • 0.5 | cup | heavy cream |

Instructions
 

  • Place sugar in a light-colored saucepan over medium heat.
  • Allow sugar to melt without stirring until it turns clear then amber.
  • Remove from heat and carefully pour in the water while stirring.
  • Return to low heat and stir until any hardened caramel dissolves.
  • Slowly add the heavy cream while stirring constantly.
  • Simmer 2–3 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly and turns glossy.
  • Remove from heat and cool 5 minutes before using or storing.

Notes

Store in a sealed jar in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
Reheat gently on the stove or in short microwave bursts, stirring often.
Add a pinch of salt at the end for salted caramel if desired.
Sauce thickens further as it cools; thin with a splash of cream if needed.
