A simple kitchen hack that softens a hard, underripe avocado in minutes using aluminum foil and hot water. The flesh becomes creamy and ready to use for toast, guacamole, or salads.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 | | hard underripe avocado |
  • 1 | sheet | aluminum foil |
  • 1 | | hot water | from kettle

Instructions
 

  • Select a firm, underripe avocado.
  • Wrap the avocado tightly in aluminum foil.
  • Place the wrapped avocado in a heat-safe bowl.
  • Pour hot water over it until mostly submerged.
  • Let sit for 10–15 minutes.
  • Remove from water and carefully unwrap.
  • Test for softness by gentle pressure.
  • Slice open and use immediately.

Notes

Do not leave the avocado in hot water longer than 20 minutes.
Cool slightly before cutting.
Use immediately or refrigerate once ripe.
Works best with firm, dark-skinned avocados.
